Social Impotent
You don't need balls and a penis to feel impotent...It's been 2 months since i'm in China and every day is a struggle to connect with the rest of the world and be at least socially present, if not active. At this point, twitter and the connection it has to my facebook account, is the only thing that keeps me connected to my friends, however it's still a one-way communication. Using different softwares (freegate, ultrasurf) and websites(cameleo.ru, daidostup.ru) helps to access the web-sites, but still with a super slow speed, I can only see my Home page on FB and my notifications...sometimes when luck is on my side i can search my friends, congratulate them with their birthday and even make a comment. At a certain point I couldn't access FB for 3 weeks in a row- yes i'm still alive:) Don't want to complain but till now i can't even access my blog to manage the post comments.First it feels like you're deprived of a vital life ingredient. My first days in China I struggled like a fish for air- nothing helped me to access facebook or twitter. I felt helpless. It seemed so unfair. Cruel. Inhumane. Then asking the right people for the right solutions, made things better- i can stay socially present, but i still wandered how Chinese people feel about their social isolation. The answer is simple, there's is NO social isolation...at least not inside China. They are probably the only country in the world that don't "google it" when they need to find smth out. Instead they Baidu it (baidu.com). Who needs facebook, if you have renren.com (that translate people people) and is a virtual copy of facebook function-wise. But the biggest social network in China is QQ(http://www.imqq.com). It's something similar to messenger or icq, but much more developed. People have their own blogs on QQ, facebook-similar pages, twitter-similar application, and of course games of growing animals, vegetables, and the other time-killers.Conclusion there IS social network in China, it's just it is ONLY in China. And who needs the rest of the world, when quarter of it is on QQ:)PS: My apologies to all the dear people, that i didnt get a chance to congratulate with their important days. You're always in my heart.
